Hosting and server logs
This website is hosted by STRATO GmbH, Otto-Ostrowski-Straße 7, 10249 Berlin, Germany. STRATO processes technical request data to deliver and secure the website and diagnose errors. This includes IP addresses, request times and addresses, HTTP status codes and transmitted browser and referrer information. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR: my legitimate interest in operating a reliable and secure website.
A data processing agreement under Article 28 GDPR covers the hosting service. STRATO processes personal data within this arrangement and on documented instructions. Server logs are retained for their operational and security purposes or applicable legal requirements and deleted when no longer needed. Further information: STRATO privacy information and data processing agreement.
Necessary functions and preferences
Joomla uses session information for functions such as administrator login and protection against forged form requests. A chosen colour mode is stored locally in your browser under “jc.theme.v1”. A statistics objection is stored locally under “jc.analytics-optout.v1”. These preferences are not sent to external font or analytics providers merely by being stored. Necessary storage is based on section 25(2) TDDDG; subsequent personal data processing is based on Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The statistics and opt-out information below applies.
Contact form and email
The contact form processes your name, email address, subject and message to answer your enquiry. Technical session and request information may also be processed to secure the form. For ordinary private enquiries, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, reflecting my interest in responding; Article 6(1)(b) GDPR applies where a specific contractual enquiry is involved. The message is sent through the website’s configured email service. It is retained only as long as necessary to deal with your enquiry, unless legal retention obligations apply. This website does not offer audio uploads or messenger-based contact forms.
Google reCAPTCHA for the contact form (planned)
Google reCAPTCHA is planned for the future RSForm contact form to protect against spam and automated abuse. reCAPTCHA is not yet integrated into this contact form.
Once enabled, reCAPTCHA may send technical data such as your IP address, browser and device information, and interactions with the form to Google for risk assessment. The “_GRECAPTCHA” cookie may be set when it runs. Processing on servers outside the EU, particularly in the USA, is possible.
The integration is intended to load only after separate consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR; Section 25(1) TDDDG for non-essential access to your device). The statistics objection and consent to reCAPTCHA are managed independently. Before activation, this notice will be completed with the actual reCAPTCHA version, contracting entity, retention period and applicable safeguards for international transfers. You can continue to contact me by email or telephone without enabling reCAPTCHA.
Further information: Google Privacy Policy, Google Terms of Service and reCAPTCHA information.
Administrator area
Login processes the credentials entered, session information and security-related request data to restrict access to authorised users. The legal basis is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR. The protected knowledge base is not made public by the login form.
Local fonts
Fonts are delivered from this website’s own server. Loading them does not establish a connection to Google Fonts.
Weather for Hannover-Ricklingen
The weather display uses Open-Meteo for the fixed location Hannover-Ricklingen. It first uses model data cached on the web server. If current data is unavailable, your browser requests the free weather API directly. Open-Meteo then receives your IP address and technical connection data. Your current location is not requested; only the fixed location coordinates are sent. The request sends no cookies or referrer. This integration contains no advertising or analytics scripts and does not persist weather data in browser storage.
Open-Meteo describes technical logs for maintenance and abuse prevention, deleted after 90 days. The legal basis for displaying the weather is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, the interest in providing current local weather information. Further information: Open-Meteo: terms and privacy. The model data is licensed under CC BY 4.0.
Matomo statistics and your right to opt out
This website uses the self-hosted Matomo installation at crone-it.net to understand usage and improve the site. Collection starts automatically when you visit a page unless you have opted out. Matomo tracking cookies and browser feature detection are disabled in this integration. Using no cookies does not make all data anonymous; technical connection data may still be personal data.
Statistics include page views, page language (DE/EN), language switches, clicks on contact channels, internal and external links, downloads and use of the sky timeline. Clicking “Send email” and attempting to submit the form are recorded separately; a submission attempt does not confirm delivery. Form entries such as names, email addresses and messages are not sent as statistics events. Query parameters are removed from reported page and link addresses. Connecting to the Matomo server involves technical request data; IP addresses are shortened in Matomo reports.
The processing serves my interest in understanding usage and usability and improving this private website. You can object at any time through “Statistics settings”. No further statistics actions are recorded in this browser after you opt out. The objection is stored locally until you withdraw it or delete the browser data. It applies to the particular browser and website address; you need to opt out again on another device or after deleting browser data. A browser Do Not Track setting is also respected. Opting out does not automatically delete data collected earlier.
External links
External websites are contacted only when you follow a link. Their operators are responsible for their own processing. This website does not embed personal Komoot routes or maps of my hiking activity.
Your rights
Subject to the legal conditions, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, data portability and objection under Articles 15–21 GDPR. You may withdraw consent at any time. Please use the controller contact above. You may also complain to a supervisory authority, including the State Commissioner for Data Protection of Lower Saxony: lfd.niedersachsen.de.
Security and updates
Technical and organisational measures protect the website. This policy will be adjusted when the actual services or processing change. No automated decision-making with legal or similarly significant effects is performed by this private website.
External images
The Weser Uplands, Süntel and Alfelder Berge photographs and the Lower Saxony horse are served locally. Other regional and Süntel beech photographs are temporarily loaded from Wikimedia, transmitting the visitor’s IP address to that image server. Credits appear in the detailed articles and legal notice.
Air quality, UV index and webcam link
The additional air quality and UV display requests Open-Meteo/CAMS model data for the fixed coordinates of Hannover-Ricklingen directly in your browser. Open-Meteo receives your IP address and the technical connection data required for this request. No cookies or referrer are sent, and no location permission is needed. The display contains no advertising or analytics scripts and holds data only temporarily in the open page’s memory. See Open-Meteo’s terms and privacy information for details.
The webcam card is an external link to earthTV. No earthTV player is loaded on this website. Only when you open the link do you visit earthTV’s service, which has its own privacy policy.
