Moorland near Torfhaus, the route to the Brocken and the Wurmberg near Braunlage: three perspectives on the Harz.
Torfhaus: moorland and the Goetheweg
Torfhaus is a starting point for walks in the Harz National Park. The Goetheweg leads from here to the Brocken, passing moorland and places connected with the former inner-German border. The surroundings of Torfhaus also deserve attention in their own right.
Brocken: planning for the summit
Several routes lead up to the Brocken, including those from Torfhaus, Schierke and Ilsenburg. The choice of approach shapes the walk. Distance alone is not enough to judge a summit outing: weather, visibility and wind also matter.
Wurmberg: the Braunlage side
The Wurmberg offers another perspective, above Braunlage. The official summit route combines a mountain stream, rocky sections and viewpoints. It is a walking destination in its own right rather than simply a stop on the way to the Brocken.
