Woodland, ridges and local history: Lipperland is one of my walking regions.
Landscape and history
Lipperland is another area where I spend time outdoors. Its walking landscape includes well-known places that can add a cultural perspective to an outing.
Hermannsdenkmal and Externsteine
The Hermannsweg follows the ridge of the Teutoburg Forest. In the Lippe section, its landmarks include the Hermannsdenkmal near Detmold, the Externsteine near Horn-Bad Meinberg and the Lippische Velmerstot.
These places can inspire individual walks rather than a commitment to the whole long-distance trail. A suitable section or circular route is another way to discover the area.
Choosing a walk
A map, a realistic distance and time for pauses are useful when selecting a route. The Teutoburger Wald association provides an overview of the Hermannsweg.
